Primarily Responsibility
As the General Secretary and Operations Executive, I am responsible to the Executive Committee of Equal Justice the Union (EJU). My principal responsibility is to maintain EJTU’s organizational effectiveness. I am the Executive Committee’s chief advisor, and I occasionally propose initiatives to improve EJU’s organizational strength.
Skillset
I am a graduate with a degree in business management and Social Work; I also have experience at a senior leadership level within the trade union movement. I bring organisational management skills, industrial relations skills, and representation. I also have a good understanding of economic and social policy issues, knowledge of employment legislation, and advocacy and campaigning techniques to communicate them. My initial career was as a Probation Officer, and I am an experienced training operative.
Aspiration for the Union
EJU is the ‘go-to’ trade union for all workers referred to in The Equality Act 2010 because it provides noticeable protection for those workers in the workplace. EJU will seek to be an authoritative collective voice for workers to central and local government and legislative-making bodies to ensure that relevant legislation reflects workers’ experience and provides appropriate sanctions for those who contravene the law.
